I have worked in the mental health field since 2008, and in a variety of roles serving youth and their families for the past 20 years. In 2002, I received my Bachelor's degree in Political Science with a double minor in Professional Writing and Global & Urban Ministry at Seattle Pacific University. In 2008, I received a Master’s degree of Education in Counseling Psychology from Heritage University.
I have spent my career working with adolescents and adults in a variety of treatment settings, including psychiatric hospital, community mental health clinics, and private practice. I have experience treating a variety of mental health issues and provide a safe, caring, and comfortable environment to promote healing. I utilize an empathetic, straight forward approach to help clients work toward their personal goals and develop the ability to feel complete and at peace with themselves. I enjoy learning and always looking for new approaches to help clients achieve their goals and their emotional well-being.
Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, which means I follow all requirements of the Washington counselor licensure board in accordance with state law. I have a Master’s degree in mental health counseling from an accredited university and more than 3,000 hours of postgraduate mental health counseling under the supervision of an approved licensed mental health counselor. Further, I completed a National Board of Certified Counselors exam and dutifully fulfill the required annual continued education.
Child Mental Health Specialist (CMHS)
As a Child Mental Health Specialist (CMHS), the Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery (DBHR) has acknowledged that I am certified in family and child development, and the treatment of children and youth, with serious emotional disturbance. I have more than seven years of full-time experience in the treatment of severely emotionally-disturbed children, youth, and their families.
Disability Mental Health Specialist (DMHS)
Additionally, the DBHR has awarded me the designation of Disability Mental Health Specialist (DMHS). This designation acknowledges my experience with individuals who have been diagnosed with pervasive developmental disorder, autism spectrum disorder, genetic defect, fetal alcohol syndrome, and/or fragile X syndrome. Through my work, clients have reduced their symptoms related to cognitive and/or social and emotional delay.
In addition to providing counseling services, I also provide individual and group clinical supervision on a case by case basis to associates seeking to acquire a Washington state mental health counseling license.
My passion for counseling comes from a strong desire to help others create the life they want to live. I have learned that I am the master of my reality and seek to share that realization with others. The tools I share with clients are often the tools I use everyday for my own health and happiness. I believe in making positive choices, building a supportive network of friends and having fun everyday.
I like to refer my clients to Jenifer. We have a good working relationship and she genuinely cares for clients' well being. I see positive results in their condition. She uses various psychotherapy techniques, and is especially skilled in treating anxiety states and working closely with clients' family.
