Counseling Services

I provide individual, group, and family counseling services to youth and adults expieriencing difficulty in many problem areas. I have advanced training in treating Behavioral Issues, Anxiety, Depression, and Tramatic Stress.

Parent Child Interaction Therapy

I am a trained provider of Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). PCIT is a treatment for families that focuses on child behavioral problems, parenting skills, and changing relationships. PCIT is an appropriate intervention anytime the parent-child relationship, for children age three to 11 years, it is a primary focus for concern. Studies at the University of California, Davis Medical Center, as well as numerous other studies, have demonstrated the effectiveness of PCIT for reducing abuse and child behavior problems. Most families who participate in PCIT are able to complete treatment in 16 sessions. Following my initial training, I participated in monthly PCIT consultation calls with the University of Washington's Center for Sexual Assualt and Traumatic Stress for two years.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

I have been trained by the University of Washington in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for depression, anxiety, and behaviors (CBT+). TF-CBT is the most well-supported and effective treatment for children with post-traumatic stress disorder and/or who have been abused and have experienced trauma. Multiple clinical research studies have deemed it a model program and best practice. Clients receiving TF-CBT have been able to complete treatment in as few as 12 sessions. Following my initial

training, I participated in consultation calls for six months to ensure fidelity to this intervention.

Animal-Assisted Therapy

AAT is a goal-directed intervention in that an animal, who meets specific criteria, is an integral part of the treatment process. There have been many studies which show the effectiveness of this intervention in treating symptoms of anxiety and depression. AAT has been shown to help children who have experienced trauma and stress, patients undergoing difficult medical treatments, and veterans and their families who are struggling to cope with the effects of wartime military service. With new research and a continued commitment to professionalism, AAT will continue to grow in mainstream healthcare acceptance and practice–one more tool to enhance clients' well-being, and one more reminder of the vital and multifaceted role that animals can play in every aspect of our lives.
